I seem an unlikely candidate for starting a Transit Riders Union. I live in the suburbs (though used to live in central Seattle). I ride transit *maybe* once a week, but usually bike to work. But whenever I ride our transit system--especially when I try new routes--I discover more challenges that make transit difficult for new riders. Combine those experiences with my engineering mentality of fixing problems and improving efficiencies, and apparently I become an advocate for improving our transit system and organizing riders make our voices heard.
